The plot on which St. Mary Catholic church stands now was donated by the late Peter Gichumbi. The name was in memory of his late wife who was called Mary.
By then the Christians of this area used to go to church at Maragua Catholic church and the elderly found it hard to reach there. So when this person announced that he will donate a piece of his land to the church, the news was received with joy and gratitude.
The plot was given out and the first Mass was celebrated in the year 2004.
The Christian community of this area started meeting on this plot despite no structure was erected. A committee was elected to oversee the preparations of erecting a structure where people could gather for prayers and Masses.
Despite the many hurdles encountered, since some people were still going to church at Maragua centre, a consensus was reached to build a permanent church. This materialised when the first fund raiser was held on the 27th of Nov. 2007 and St. Mary Catholic Church was declared an out station of Maragua Parish during the Mass bringing the number of out station to thirteen by then.
Through hard work and intercessions through mother Mary, great achievements have been experienced at St. Mary.
