Wairuri Local Church

church event Wairuri Local church said to be an out station of Ichagaki Parish. It is said that the church started around 1950’s under fr. Ruthano who was the fr. In charge in those days. Bishop Tabarera was then the Bishop of Nyeri. Fr. Ruthano saw the need to start bringing people together, since sisal plantation workers came from different areas and tribes in our country.
During the year 1988, the sisal plantation land was said to the Mboi Kamiti society, so the church had no followers. The Fr. In charge Fr. Paul elected five men to take care of the church among them, Samuel Gachuhi from Gathuguri, Benard Gitau from Igikiro, chege from Gathuguri, Erias Chege as a Liturgist.
In 1994, Fr. Vulen with Fr. Wilson Njoroge, by that time he was in seminary, started small Christian community st. Theresa. Fr. Vulen was succeeded by fr. Motter & Fr. MArlew. The other three small Christian community started during time of Fr. Peter Ngochi. In the the year 2002, we started expanding the church. The estimate Christians are about 200.
We have one catechist and two liturgists. The church is about 6 km from Maragua and 3km from the main road, on your way to Kaharati town. We are near to Poineer school. Our cash crop is bananas.
